Cotote Woman watched Skeleton Man play a game; he would sing a special song and his eyes would fly out of his head and go South and then come back. Coyote wanted to play this game as well, so Skeleton Man showed her how to do it. Coyote sang the special song and her eyes flew out of her head. However, Coyote Woman got excited and forgot to face South, so her eyes couldn't get back to her. She panicked and started feeling for them on the ground. She touched two gourds and picked them and put them in her eyesockets. Now her eyes were yellow and when she got home, the color frightened her children and they all ran away. That is why she now hunts alone, but pauses to share company of the dancer for awhile.
